Gift Tax Reports

Please note: EVP Office now features GiftVal, software designed especially to produce gift reports. The instructions below still work, but GiftVal is a complete gift-tax evaluation system.

EstateVal can be configured to produce gift tax reports. While the process is far from user-friendly and the changes listed below only affect the printed reports (not the input prompts), several of our customers have asked for the ability.

EVP Systems has plans to incorporate true gift tax features into EstateVal in the future. If you would like to request specific features regarding any aspect of EstateVal, please mail our Support Department at support@evpsys.com.

Warning: Directly modifying the ESTATES.INI file can be dangerous. While you can simply erase it to return to EstateVal's original defaults, you should create a backup copy of your current file -- name it EV_INI.BAK -- before attempting any editing. Also, make sure that EstateVal is not running when these changes are made.

That said, load ESTATES.INI into a text editor -- Notepad on Windows, or EDIT on DOS -- and edit in the following items after any existing text:

[Report.136 Columns, Portrait]
Head.Death.Format = Date of Gift: %s

[Report]
Name Text = Gift to:
Include Report Type = FALSE
Title Default.0 = Gift Evaluation
Disclaim.Foot =

(Note that there are four spaces between "Date of Gift:" and "%s", and there is nothing after the equals sign for "Disclaim.Foot".)

When finished, save your modified ESTATES.INI and run EstateVal. When you print Date of Death or Alternate Date reports now, they will appear without any mention of "death," using "gift" in its place.

These changes will remain permanently until you remove the modified ESTATES.INI file by replacing it with your saved EV_INI.BAK.
